The new business battlefront: AI vs ai

Anthropic (makers of Claude) have been developing their next advanced AI system. It’s called Mythos. During testing, they wanted to see how secure modern IT environments really were. What they uncovered was shocking.

A significant number of hidden vulnerabilities across systems that would typically be considered well-managed. These weren’t obvious issues, they were the kind that build up over time through outdated software, small configuration changes, and complex integrations. The findings were serious enough that Anthropic made the decision to delay the full public release and address the risks before going any further.

What makes this more relevant to everyday businesses is what happened next.

Anthropic didn’t keep this to themselves. They worked with a wide range of major technology vendors, including companies behind operating systems, cloud platforms, and network infrastructure. This includes providers like Microsoft, whose Windows operating systems and Microsoft 365 cloud services are used by the majority of businesses, as well as vendors in the firewall and network security space. These companies were given early access so they could identify similar weaknesses in their own products and start preparing fixes.

The reality is that most businesses rely on a mix of these platforms every day, Windows PCs, cloud email and file storage, and network security devices like firewalls. When vulnerabilities are discovered at this level, they don’t just affect one system, they can impact entire business operations. That’s why, following something like this, it’s common to see a wave of updates and security patches released across multiple vendors over the following months.

The key takeaway is straightforward. Security isn’t a one-time setup.

it’s an ongoing process. Even well-maintained environments develop gaps over time. Regular updates, patching, and system reviews are one of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce risk. Businesses that stay on top of this are far better positioned than those that treat updates as optional or delay them.

Over the next few months, we expect to see and large increase in the number of software updates, security patches being released across all aspects of IT, including hardware and software.

It is vital that you keep a very close eye on the updates that are available for the infrastructure you run and the software your business uses.
